Asustek Slates Android Smartphone Launch for 1Q 2009

Taiwanese Asustek, known for its pioneering netbook Asus EEE PC, recently revealed plans to debut its Google Android platform-based Smartphone in the first quarter of 2009, according to an October 29 report by Taiwan's Commercial Times. It is expected that Asustek will tap Qualcomm's and Marvell's chips for its Android Smartphone, as the company expects to gradually phase out the chips procured from Ericsson Mobile Platform. Moreover, Asustek is expected to sell its Android Smartphone under the Asus brand targeting the Taiwanese market. No further details are available, though.
